The world of drones for beginners can seem a little overwhelming, to say the least. With dozens of different models available from a variety of manufacturers, it’s easy to see why some newbie drone pilots might be a tad confused. You may be wondering what features you should look for in an ideal drone, how much you should spend on your first drone, and whether or not you’ll even like flying drones in the first place (spoiler alert: you will). But never fear! I’m here to help you navigate the beginner drone scene. Below are some of my favorite drones for beginners on the market right now. Happy shopping!
DJI Spark, Mavic Air, and Mavic Pro
DJI Spark, Mavic Air, and Mavic Pro
The DJI Spark is the smallest drone on this list, making it perfect for beginners. It’s also the most affordable option at just £399. The Spark comes with a built-in camera that shoots 12MP stills and 1080p in video mode (720p at 60fps). It can fly up to 31 mph and has a range of 1 mile when in Sport Mode (or 1/2 mile in Normal Mode). The flight time is 16 minutes before needing to charge again. If you want something more compact that packs more power than the Spark but is still easy enough for beginners to fly consider getting an Mavic Air (£799) or Mavic Pro (£999). Both are very stable platforms that offer greater control thanks to their bigger size (the Air is about half as big as its predecessor while the Pro is slightly larger than both models).
Parrot Bebop 2
For the beginner looking to get their feet wet with a drone, the Parrot Bebop 2 is a great option. With its easy-to-use controls and fun design, it’s easy to fall in love with this little guy. It comes in at just under £400 on Amazon (and regularly goes on sale), which makes it one of the more affordable drones out there as well.
Though there are plenty of other options out there that might be more suitable for beginners than this one—the DJI Spark comes to mind—the Bebop 2 has enough features and capabilities that even seasoned pilots will enjoy flying it around. The camera takes decent pictures and videos, usually getting the job done in low light situations too! The battery lasts about 25 minutes per charge, which isn’t bad considering most standard drones only last about 15 minutes max these days…
Syma X5C-1
The Syma X5C-1 is one of the most popular drones for beginners. It’s a small but powerful machine capable of performing impressive aerobatic maneuvers and taking clear photos and videos from above. The drone’s camera has a resolution of 720p HD, which means that it can’t compete with high-end cameras like those found on some more expensive models. However, its 5MP camera takes decent pictures and videos at ranges up to 100 meters away from the pilot, making it perfect for capturing aerial footage in your backyard or neighborhood park (as long as you’re not too close to any private property).
The Syma X5C-1 weighs just over 1 pound with its battery installed—one of the lightest drones on this list by far—and has a maximum speed of 8 meters per second (about 18 miles per hour). It also comes equipped with an intelligent flight system that allows it to maintain balance while maneuvering through complex acrobatics like flips or barrel rolls without losing control due to wind gusts or other external factors.
Drone, Or UAV?
There is a lot of confusion about what exactly a drone is. Is it just any flying object? Or does it have to be controlled by a person? How much do you need to know about physics to fly one? What are the best drones for beginners?
In order to clear up some of these questions, we’ll be exploring the basics of drones and how you can use them as an aerial camera platform.
Conclusion
